By golly, it’s a very young Meetan long before she was a member of AKB48!  Back when these videos were shot she went by the name Matsushima Megumi and I believe her nickname was “Meetang”.  I wish I knew exactly how old she was when this was done.  My guess is late teens.

So cute!  In some of the shots I think she looks a lot like a young Matsuura Aya.  I love watching these old videos of hers.  She uses that “super cutesy” voice she used to use when she was first in AKB.  But you can see some of her present personality beginning to come through in her facial expressions.

Awwww, Meetan has always loved dogs!  I purchased one of her pre-AKB48 gravure DVD’s while I was in Japan.  This isn’t from that video, it was linked to me by Jasey from Stage48.net.  I wish more of her old gravure stuff was available on DVD.  I would buy the lot if I could…sigh!

Yet another AKB48 television show.  Actually this is the second season of Nemousu Terebi, which pits AKB48 members in various contests.  I actually never watched the first season, although it has been uploaded all over the net.  Looks like I have some homework to do.

Meetan, along with Tomomi-chan and Kana are promoting the new season on what I am guessing is the official YouTube site.  That’s interesting, I wonder if some of the shows will appear there too?  It isn’t shown on “over the air TV, so unless we wait for the DVD to come out we will have to rely on downloads.

So what is this all about?

The campaign has begun!  The powers that be over at AKB48 have decided to let the fans decide which members will get to appear on an upcoming single.  It will be done by vote, all you need to do is purchase a regular version of their next single “Namida Surprise” to receive a ballot.  Fan Club members (HA!) and “Live on Demand” subscribers also get a vote.

Obviously you know who our vote(s) will be going to.  And CJ and I hope to pursuade you to vote the same way as well…

I can think of quite a few reasons why Ohori deserves a shot at the single.  And I will be updating this site periodically with those reasons just to remind you.  But for now let’s allow Meetan to speak for herself…

Oh melt!  You can see her practically pleading with her eyes.  The only PV she has ever had a prominent appearance in was for Baby Baby Baby! And she was sensational in it!  Well, she looked sensational.  I’m not sure if I heard her sing a note in the song.  But that is merely another reason to vote for her.  You know she is always great whenever she is onscreen!  There is no limit to the kind of fun the producers could have with her on the PV!

Meetan’s popularity has taken a wonderful turn over the past year, especially with her triumphant debut single.  She is one of, if not the funniest person on AKBingo!  And no one does sexy in AKB48 quite like her.  Ohori always shines when she is given the chance to be front and center.  Something CJ and I are trying to illustrate with this site.

Right now the mixi rankings have Meetan in the Top 20, popularity wise.  That is great!  But she isn’t a shoe-in.  She will need our support…

I bought loads of stuff while I was in Japan.  I am proud to say I have a new jewel in my collection, and that is the AKB48 Set List Best 100 Live at Shibuya AX 2009 DVD!

Heavens what an incredible set this is.  It comes with five CD’s, one for each of the four nights and a full “making of” disc.  Quite an upgrade from last year’s version.  Also included was an amazing photobook of the concerts and five bonus photos.  And as a bonus I received another photobook entitle “AKB48 Gravure”.  Oh, Drool!  Although our beautiful Meetan wasn’t included in that book.  That’s okay, she has done plenty of gravure for us to ogle at!  I mean who could forget this great book!

But back to the DVD, one of my favorite moments of the show came in at #59, 16nin Shimai no Uta (The Song of 16 Sisters) from Team K’s 4th stage.  Ironically this is the song performed immediately after Oshi/Meshi.  It is the song where Nacchi, Natsumi and Kana sing about and make fun of their groupmates.  If you haven’t it performed, it is cute and silly.  And I just adore Nacchi in it.  During the stage they performed it with cardboard cutouts of their teammates, but at AX all of the girls appeared live.  It is one of the funniest moments of the four nights.  And Meetan…oh Meetan!  So great!!!

I was ecstatic to find out that the gold bikini made an encore appearance at AX.  Go Meetan, you rock!!!

When a brand new Stage begins, we all hope that our favorite member gets a great unit song, lots of solo lines…Hell, we want her to be the star.  But it is tough in Team K. There are a lot of real power players on that team.  That said, Meetan has found her place in the idol world.  When it comes to AKB48, there are few that are sexier than her.

So as far as her showing in Team K’s brand new stage?  No, she isn’t the star.  She is just one of the many great members of a great team.  But that doesn’t mean I am not going to hunt down her closeups in the LOD version of the show.  Here are a few great Meetan moments in the new Stage…

During the first MC…I just love Meetan’s “smokey” voice.  She is always “sexing it up” for the audience.

Ai no Iro.  I just love that shot, Ohori looks so angelic!  I would have liked to hear her more on the song.  But giving credit where credit is due, Yuka and Sae were awesome!  This is one of my favorite songs of the Stage!

During the last MC, reacting to another silly (stupid) Kobayashi Kana moment.  But it is moments like this that I realize why I love Tanabe Miku from Team B.  In some ways Tanamin looks a lot like Meetan!

I will be in Japan for 12 days beginning this weekend.  I hope I win tickets to see K5 live, and my precious Meetan.  It WILL be a blast!  I will keep you posted.

Yes, this is the precise moment my Meetan adoration officially began, the Shibuya AX performance of Blue Rose last year.  I was about 25 feet from the stage on the far left, directly in front of Ohori.  BTW, Blue Rose is one of the most kick-ass songs in the AKB48 catalog.  Check it out…
