My Sweet Meetan

After I finished the previous post I searched online to see if I could find those classic Meetan episodes of AKB 0ji59fun from 2008.  Luckily someone had recently uploaded them.  So a great big thank you to that person.  Here ya go, caps from the show dated 2009/06/16

This is the first time I had watched this on anything other than YouTube.  And I always wondered what the dark shadow was in the crease of her arm.  Could they really have been that careless in the editing room?

Aaahhh, she is hiding a towel!  The mystery has been solved.  The funniest thing about this was the reaction by the other girls.  The look on Kasai’s face was absolutely priceless!

Once again the reactions are great.  This time Acchan and Chikarina (I think that’s her) get into the act.  And MaiMai is going absolutely nuts!  I find that a bit curious as I have seen some of her photoshoots…

And there he is, the cameraman.  If I’m not mistaken I believe his name is “Lucky”!  BTW, I want that shirt!!!

If you caught last week’s episode of AKBingo! you saw it was a tribute to the greatest scenes in the show’s two year history.  And if you have been watching since the beginning you know that there have been many many memorable moments involving Meetan.  Not the least of which is this famous scene from AKB 0ji59fun which marked the beginning of Meetan becoming a sympathetic comedy “victim” on the show…

Many people feel this marked Ohori’s upturn in popularity.  I’m not sure about that.  To me it was the last night of the 1st Shibuya AX Setlist concert in 2008 that did it.  The “gold bikini” moment is celebrated to this day.  But back to the scene…Yeah, she won the challenge, but how how is she going to get down?  Well, you all know the end of the story…

She was “A-OK”!  Yatta!!!  As funny as that was, one of my favorite moments came a month later when the producers did two “special” openings for the show featuring Meetan.  The thing was, Meetan was naked in both of them.  I unfortunately don’t have the screencaps for that.  Instead I will use Oku Manami’s artist rendering of naked Ohori…

Hehehehe.  Yeah, I  WISH I had screencaps of those two episodes.  Actually I saw the entire series of AKB 0ji59fun available for download.  Maybe I’ll grab it.  More important is what was in my opinion the best Meetan moment in the history of the series.  Perhaps it is because I am a huge Ohori fan, but I honestly believe the following was the most amazing episode of AKBingo! EVER!

I don’t know too many people who weren’t affected by Meetan’s 10,000 CD challenge final episode.  It was heart-wrenching, heartwarming and frankly tough to watch at times.  Sure it had a couple funny moments, but for the most part it left viewers on the edge of their seat with tears in their eyes.

I just knew it would have a happy ending.  It would have been too cruel otherwise.  I was really sorry not to see it in the Top 20, although frankly I understand.  Even with a couple of tearful scenes, the “best of” episode was primarily about the funniest moments.  But to me this should have made the list for sure…

At least they gave Ohori an “honorable mention” for being the victim of a “pie in the face” more than anyone else.  Way to go Meetan!  I’ll just add that to the lengthy list of why you are awesome!!!

Last week’s AKBingo! featured some of the AKB girls and “apologetic emails after you have been in an argument with your boyfriend”  Meetan was one of the participants.  This should be interesting…

You could tell just from Sata’s reading of this particular email that it wasn’t very “apologetic”  Filled with taunting “Baka’s” (stupid).  The girls were totally weirded out by this entry.  And I’ll give you one guess who the author was…

And if that wasn’t bad enough, they further harassed poor Meetan with obnoxious reactions from men on the street.  Even their so-called “email etiquette” expert thought our girl’s entry was ridiculous.

Meetan tried to soften it up with a compassionate reading, but nobody was having any of that.  Apparently we are getting a little glimpse of how Megumi is with her suitors in real life.  I don’t think she has much patience for guys.  That said, I would still be her lapdog any day.  Just the way she likes it!

Why is it that whenever I see Meetan on this show I want to jump through the television screen and give her a big hug?

I just finished watching this week’s episode of AKBingo!  Sadly, Meetan didn’t make an appearance in the actual show, although she was featured in the highlights of AKB48 performing in Paris.  However, last week she was featured in part of the “Fashion Show Battle”.  The theme?  An outfit for dinner with the guy’s parents…

I know I would be proud to bring Meetan home wearing that.  And I think my father would be pretty stoked about it too…

Eeeehhhhhhhhhhhhh?  Uematsu the fashion expert rates her outfit as “really unfashionable”  This guy wouldn’t know fashion if it smashed him in the face.  Hehe, just kidding.  I really like him on the show.

Awww, poor Meetan.  She is so sensitive.  Always getting her feelings hurt.  Meetan, I think you look adorable!!!

Everyone is happy again, yay!  Meetan once again takes one for the team and for the sake of comedy.  Every time she is featured on AKBingo! it is pure comedic magic.  That’s our girl!

Ohori played a big part on this week’s AKBingo! episode.  First on the Team A vs. Team K challenge segment, then on “AKBest 10″ for the second time in a row.  You might remember the episode from a couple of weeks ago where her manager Kim-san snapped a giant rubber band (or something) into her face.  But first, a new opening for the show…

Alright!  Meetan gets a closeup on the opening title credits.  That was cool, even if it was for the tiniest fraction of a second!

Teams A and K got into a jumprope/teamwork battle this week.  I was so worried that Meetan would be the one to mess up the team jump, given her tender knees and thighs.

Happily our girl “jumped like the wind”and assisted Team K in a decisive victory.  But it wasn’t her only victory of the day.  Well, sort of…

It was time for “AKBest 10″, which is a showcase of the girls doing random parlor tricks.  This week’s skits were really good.  I loved Sasshi’s wota-gei, and especially Tomomi-chan’s “chiyuu” segment.  But this week Meetan scored #1.  Yatta!  This is so gr……Uhhh?

OMFG!!!  What the hell is Kim-san doing to Meetan?  Don’t hurt her!!!

Jeez that looks painful!  I think I had a similar expression to Nonti when I first saw this episode.  Please, let it be over…No, don’t do it Kim-san.  NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I have said it before, I will say it again.  Meetan is such a trooper!  She is always willing to take one for the team!

It’s time to play a little catch-up.  Ohori has had a few cute moments in the last two episodes of AKB48’s weekly television show, beginning with MaiMai’s graduation marathon.  But let’s not focus on the run itself.  It brings up thoughts of Meetan’s injured legs, which wasn’t helped by the episode’s closing scene of Meetan hobbling and crying.  On a happier note, the girls had a little pre-race fun, scoring some great eats at a local fish market.  Judging by Meetan’s official blog, we already know the girl loves a good meal…

It isn’t AKBingo! without winners and losers.  Thankfully Meetan won both food drawings and got to enjoy what I’m sure was some amazing seafood.  Just watch the way she digs in to this giant crab leg…

I’m trying to come up with a good description of her experience of the crab, but the only word that’s coming to me is “orgasmic“.  Errrr….Yep, I think that fits our heroine fairly well.

The end of the show had a preview of the Senbatsu promotion.  And a scene with Meetan and (according to Hiro-san) her manager.  Which leads to her shining moment on this past week’s episode.  Meetan teaming up with her new comic foil, Kim-san…

Next week’s episode promises more Meetan goodness, as evidently she will be one of the judges/commentators in AKB48’s cooking battle.  Hmmm, I wonder if that means she gets to eat again?

Ohori has been getting a bit of coverage on AKBingo! lately because of the half-marathon she ran last week.  You know, the one that resulted in her injuring her legs?  Grrrrr! But first…

It was palm reading time!  The object was to find out who is the luckiest girl in AKB48.  And for even more fun, who is the unluckiest?  Meetan finished 14th out of the 21 girls’ palms examined.  According to the palm reader, Ohori will be especially unlucky in the “marriage department”!

Hmmm, as much as I would love to vehemently disagree I really can’t.  She is definitely a career girl, and has a flair of independence to her.  But that doesn’t mean she wasn’t a bit disappointed with the assessment!  And it doesn’t mean there isn’t anybody in say…California who would be interested.

The most recent episode focused on Miichan and Kojiharu in the lie detector game.  Meetan was merely a spectator, laughing and scheming with Nonti in the top row.  And was that cute little Moeno from Team B sitting top center?  Nice to see her on AKBingo!

Mai Mai’s Graduation Marathon

Meetan was featured preparing for her big run in Hokkaido.  They did feature moments of her doing stretching exercises, which is a good thing.  But apparently it wasn’t enough.  If you pay attention you can see her favoring her legs in a couple of scenes.  But she was committed to doing the run for MaiMai.

And I love seeing her all sweaty in her workout clothes.  I have mentioned it before, Meetan looks hawt in anything!

She hasn’t performed since the last show I saw on the 9th.  But Team K has a light week coming up.  That should give her a chance to rest her legs and recover properly.  Meetan ganbatte!

Whenever Meetan gets a little face time on AKBingo, you are usually guaranteed something funny is about to happen.  And it usually involves her being the butt of some joke.  Either something about her age, or her pervy personality…and she is a total reaction queen too.  It’s great!  But one thing is for sure, Meetan loves being on that show!

I love AKBingo!  And Ohori is definitely one of the stars of it.  I previously mentioned those “shower” and “bedroom” scenes from last summer. (Damn, I wish I had some screencaps of that!) I was been trying to think of some regular features to do here.  So here is my first idea…AKBingo Meetan Moments!

Great…on this week’s episode we barely got a glimpse of Ohori until the end of the show, when the Bad Boys announced that she and Sayaka would be participating in Oshima Mai’s “Graduation Marathon”.  A running marathon?  Actually, I think they jokingly said that she would be graduating with MaiMai.  Oh no, don’t even say that in jest!!!

Unfortunately she was largely ignored on this week’s episode.  That’s okay, there are quite a few girls in AKB48.  Here are a couple of bonus shots from a few recent episodes as a consolation.  For some strange reason, I really like when Meetan is covered in flour.  Hehe…
